Advantages
Why Choose Gantry Machining?
Precision on Oversized Workpieces
Portal-frame rigidity and Siemens CNC control deliver accurate milling, drilling, and tapping on workpieces that exceed the capacity of conventional machining centres.
Multi-Operation Efficiency
Automatic tool changers with up to 32 stations eliminate manual intervention between drilling, milling, tapping, and marking operations - reducing cycle times and labour costs.
Heavy-Duty Construction
Monoblock welded-steel bodies, preloaded servo motors, and high-precision linear bearings provide the rigidity and accuracy needed for sustained heavy-duty cutting loads.
Full Lifecycle Support
ACM provides installation, commissioning, operator training, tooling consultation, and ongoing maintenance from Cambridge, Ontario - keeping your gantry equipment productive long-term.

Artos
The Artos brings full-capability CNC milling to heavy plate and fabricated structures without the limitations of a conventional machining centre. Its monoblock welded-steel body provides the rigidity needed for face milling, end milling, drilling, tapping, and deep-hole drilling on large workpieces, while the Siemens 840D Solution Line control delivers the positioning accuracy these operations demand. A 30 kW BT50 spindle turns at up to 3,000 RPM, and an 8-station automatic tool changer keeps cycle times short by eliminating manual intervention between operations. The fixed T-slot table measures 5,200 × 5,200 mm, providing a generous work envelope for oversized parts. Preloaded servo motors and high-quality linear bearings on every axis maintain precision under sustained cutting loads. ACM supplies the Artos from Cambridge, Ontario with installation, application engineering, and full lifecycle service support.

3-axis CNC plate drilling and milling centre
APD
The APD is purpose-built for drilling, tapping, milling, and marking heavy steel plate in a single setup. A 30 kW spindle running at up to 3,000 RPM drives carbide and HSS tooling through plate from 10 mm to 200 mm thick, while the 8-station automatic tool changer switches between drilling, tapping, countersinking, and milling operations without operator intervention. The Siemens CNC positions the spindle across the work area with rack-and-pinion drive and preloaded ball screws, and a special milling tip enables part-number and layout marking directly on the plate surface. Internal and external tool cooling systems handle both carbide and HSS tooling requirements. Standard table size is 2,000 × 4,000 mm, with custom dimensions available to match your plate inventory. ACM supplies the APD from Cambridge, Ontario with installation, tooling consultation, and ongoing service.

FAQ
Gantry Machining Questions
Answers to common questions about our gantry machining products.
ACM supplies two Akyapak gantry machining platforms: the Artos CNC gantry milling centre for face milling, end milling, drilling, tapping, and deep-hole drilling on heavy plate and fabrications; and the APD heavy-duty plate drilling machine for high-speed CNC drilling, tapping, milling, and marking of steel plate. Both machines use Siemens CNC controls and automatic tool changers.
The Artos is a full gantry milling centre with a 30 kW BT50 spindle designed for face milling, end milling, and complex machining operations on large workpieces. The APD is a dedicated plate drilling centre optimised for production drilling, tapping, and marking of steel plate up to 200 mm thick. The Artos excels at surface machining and multi-operation work; the APD excels at high-volume hole patterns and threading.
Gantry machining centres serve steel construction (base plates, connection details), wind energy (tower flanges), shipbuilding (hull components), pressure vessel manufacturing (heads and shells), bridge fabrication, and any sector that requires precision machining of large, heavy workpieces that exceed conventional machining centre capacity.
Yes. ACM provides full installation, commissioning, operator training, tooling consultation, and ongoing maintenance for all Akyapak gantry machining equipment from our Cambridge, Ontario facility. We serve fabricators and manufacturers across Ontario and Eastern Canada.
